Excursion to Lake Garda (Saturday 3rd September – 9.50 AM):

Departure by bus from Verona to Sirmione del Garda. Guided tour of the town. Sirmione del Garda was in Roman times a rest station and in late Middle Ages it became an important fortress as evidenced by the construction of the Castle. On the tip of the promontory of the peninsula, is found the broadest and most important Northern Italian Roman manor house, called the "Grotte di Catullo", built between the first century B.C. and the first century A.D.

After the visit, we will continue by bus to Peschiera del Garda for a seafood lunch. Peschiera del Garda is placed at the most southern end of the lake where the river Mincio begins its charming course. The old town centre lies in the middle of an enormous fortress in the shape of a five-pointed star and completely surrounded by water.

Then, we will do a boat trip on Lake Garda to the small town of Garda. Garda's gulf is a real jewel and is characterised by its sky-blue color and Mediterranean vegetation. The gulf is enclosed to the North by Monte Luppia, whose slopes plunge into the water to form the beautiful "Punta San Vigilio". To the south is the "Colle della Rocca": it was on this "Rocca" that a medieval castle makes people change the lake's name from "Benacus" to "Garda".

Farewell Dinner (Saturday 3rd September – 8.30 PM):

Ristorante il Torcolo in Verona.
